If you have installed QuickTime 6 already, you could be watching Apple CEO Steve Jobs deliver the Macworld keynote in MPEG-4 format. This isn't the space to go into what that means, but you're going to like it, that much we know. The QuickTime streaming we're watching is itself much improved over last year's. The announcer has just told everyone to take their seats! Beach Boys music ("Good Vibrations") is blasting out of the PA as the camera scans the crowd... There's a series of "Switcher" ads...And there he is! Jobs is wearing jeans and a black shirt and starts right in talking about how Apple came up with the Switcher ads. According to Jobs, most visitors to the Apple's Switcher site are running Windows machines. People are walking into Apple Stores with Switcher ads under their arms and saying, "Tell me more!" Jobs explains about the latest (32nd) Apple Store in SoHo. The store features a glass staircase and two Genius Bars. Next topic: Mac OS X...2.5 million active OS X users as of today and Apple expects to double that by the end of the year. 77 percent of new Mac purchasers are choosing to keep OS X as their everyday operating system. Jobs mentions 3500 Mac OS X-native applications as of now. Maya now counts on Mac users for 25 percent of their total sales. And now the first of what will likely be many 3rd party CEO speakers: The first is from RealNetworks and he demonstrates their latest OS X-ready RealPlayer. The player is available now.
