Asanté Technologies, Inc. announced yesterday that Macworld presented a "Best of Show" award to the new FriendlyNET® FR3002AL, a wireless-ready cable/DSL router. "The FR3002AL has been recognized as one of only eleven products at the show to be chosen for a Macworld 'Best of Show' award," said Jim Dalrymple, News Director for MacCentral.com, Macworld's news site. "I was impressed with its advanced security features and built-in compatibility with Apple's AirPort networks." The award, given at the recent Macworld Conference and Expo in New York, was the only one presented for a networking product. "We're thrilled that Macworld has honored the FR3002AL," commented Wilson Wong, Asanté Chairman and CEO. "Ours is the only router to offer users a choice--either wired or wireless. This gives users flexibility at an affordable price." The FR3002AL allows users to share a high-speed Internet connection with 2 other Macs or PCs via 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet, and about 16 additional users with the optional wireless module. When users want wireless support, they simply plug an Asanté AeroLAN into the router and begin talking with other 802.11b compatible devices. Support for future high-speed wireless standards is also planned. The Macworld recognition marks the 12th major industry award for the FriendlyNET routers. "They've received more industry awards and critical acclaim than any other products in their class," said Paul Scofield, Director of Technical Support. Designed to provide multiple levels of security, the FriendlyNET FR3002AL contains a natural firewall with network address translation (NAT) to protect users' privacy: the security-hardened FriendlyNET router is the only IP network address exposed to outside elements. With spread-spectrum signaling, domain access control, wired equivalent privacy (WEP) encryption, and group security, the 128-bit high-security configuration safeguards all wireless data transmissions.
