Secret iMac Breeding Pens Uncovered! By Senior Editor John H. Farr Go ahead and laugh, but what we have just discovered in an early foray into Javits Center in New York is the stuff of science fiction. We can only guess at the significance of what one of our Advance Team members managed to photograph, but we know it's important. If you've ever visited an egg farm or an typical industrial hog farming operation, the image below will seem familiar. Could this be where the "new iMacs" will come from? Is Apple about to revolutionize the industry by developing the first self-replicating personal computers? Could this in fact be the Big Surprise of this summer's Expo? Take a good look: the cages below the "parent" iMacs are obviously intended for the developing infant computers -- can't allow the frisky young iMacs to get underfoot, after all! The question on everyone's mind, of course, is whether the next generation will look like its parents. If you look closely, you won't see but a couple Flower Power or Blue Dalmation breeders in the mix, which we'd say is a pretty strong clue that the baby iMacs will have a look all their own. ![]() UPDATE: This just in: a group calling itself Geeks for Ethical Treatment of Macs (GETM) has lodged a protest with Expo officials over what it claims is "emotionally cruel and developmentally harmful PC breeding technologies" that prevent physical contact between the parent machines and their offspring. Stay tuned to see whether this will affect the show's scheduled opening or require a keynote rewrite!
