QUALCOMM Incorporated has announced the commercial release of Eudora Internet Suite (EIS) 1.1 for the Palm OS platform. With EIS software, a Palm OS device, and a wireless/wired Internet connection, users can now browse the Web without going through a proxy server and manage incoming and outgoing email. EIS software also allows users to synchronize email directly between Eudora for the Palm OS platform, and their desktop Windows email client via a Hotsync cradle connected to their PC.

``The release of EIS is a significant step for QUALCOMM,'' said Jeffrey K. Belk, senior vice president and general manager of QUALCOMM Eudora Products. ``As wireless and the Internet converge, we intend to continue to evolve the Eudora product line to offer users increased freedom on how, when and where they access email and the Web.''

EIS 1.1 software, with full functionality, is available free to users of QUALCOMM's Eudora 4.3.2 email program (Windows and Mac) operating in either free, full-featured Sponsored mode, which is supported by advertising, or Paid mode, which does not show ads. For users of most other desktop email programs, access to an additional ``unlimited sync'' feature of the software is available for $29.95. To take advantage of the Internet functionality offered by the EIS product, a user must have:
-- a Palm device with either a wireless or wired modem; or
-- a data-capable mobile phone with a cable connection to a Palm OS device
-- dial-up access to an Internet service provider.

Eudora Internet Suite software bundles three components developed by QUALCOMM Eudora Products and offers them in one easy download:

-- Eudora for the Palm OS platform: EIS 1.1 allows users to send and receive email from their Palm OS personal digital assistant.

Management of email is made easy with features such as:
• extensive filtering to download only desired messages;
• multiple mailbox capability to manage all email accounts within one client;
• integrated Palm standard address book to keep contacts organized;
• support of POP and SMTP to allow users to send and receive email directly from a Palm OS device via either a wireless or wired modem accessory; and
• synchronization support to allow email exchanging between a Palm OS device and a Windows PC.

-- Eudora Web browser for the Palm OS platform: With EIS 1.1 software, users can access almost any destination on the Internet.

Because the browser in EIS is a standard TCP/IP, HTTP/HTML browser, no proxy server is required. Features include:
• standard navigation controls such as forward, back and refresh;
• ability to create, organize and manage bookmarks;
• compatibility with virtually any Internet service provider; and
• offline viewing of cached Web pages.

-- Eudora Mail Conduit: The Eudora Mail Conduit software enables users to synchronize their Windows desktop email with their Palm OS handheld. The conduit provides powerful means for managing the amount of email stored on and transferred to the Palm OS device.

It is useful for people who receive dozens of messages on a daily basis and store hundreds on their PC. Users can:
• limit messages transferred to only the number of recent messages they want to see;
• limit the number of bytes transferred for each message and fetch the rest of a message later; and
• employ powerful filters based on criteria such as sender, subject, recipients, etc.

In addition, the conduit takes advantage of other powerful mail management features of Eudora email software for the Palm OS and its ability to display HTML. The free synchronization capabilities of EIS software require a Windows PC, Windows Eudora 4.3.2 and a cable or cradle connection between the Palm OS device and the PC.

Users have access to EIS three ways: unregistered, registered and unlimited sync. Unregistered and registered use is free, syncs only with Eudora 4.3.2 software in Paid or Sponsored modes and allows for POP/SMTP access via any Internet or data connection. Registered mode installation uses the registration code from the user's desktop Eudora email software. Unlimited sync costs $29.95 (MSRP), is compatible with most desktop email programs and allows for POP/SMTP access via any Internet or data connection.
