Mac OS 9 vs. Corel Linux -- The Death Match Posted

CNET has posted the results of a shootout they staged between Mac OS 9 and Corel Linux.

I will remove any suspense here by disclosing that OS 9 won. CNET notes that "In the end, the Mac's smooth, easy interface and access to a greater number of software titles make it the best Windows alternative for the consumer desktop. Not only is it pretty to look at, but the Mac's sophisticated plug-and-play technology makes it easy to set up peripherals. And because the Mac OS comes with its own hardware, you don't even need to install the OS to get started."

As for Corel Linux, they comment that "even our favorite consumer distribution, Corel Linux--has a lot of growing up to do before it can play with the desktop heavyweights. It's a viable option now that Corel offers most of its mainstream office software for Linux and since more software developers release products for Linux every day. But until Microsoft makes its applications available on Linux, the young OS probably won't suit your desktop perfectly."

According to a report on Business Wire the Media Metrix Internet and Digital Media research group reports that RealPlayer is now the fourth most used application on home computers, a nearly 13x increase since early 1997

Media Metrix also reports that Napster, has jumped from virtually zero in their software usage ratings, to 2.5 million users ove the pase four months, and Microsoft's Outlook Express had 27.9 million users in March.

New Online Mac Systems And Peripherals Store Opens

MacMart Systems & Peripherals, an international mail order distributor of computer related products, says it is dedicated to providing low pricing and quality service, and a member of the Better Business Bureau In Good Standing.

MacMart's main focus is on Macintosh Systems and Computer Peripherals for all platforms, with over 50,000 computer related items listed.

Specializing in the Macintosh Systems allows Van Nuys, California, based MacMart to better provide the Macintosh community with a quality place to shop. Because so many peripherals are cross-platform or have a PC counterpart, MacMart also carries a large range of PC products.

Name brand PC computer systems such as IBM, Compac, Hewlett Packard and Toshiba are also provided on request. If MacMart does not have an item in stock, it can be shipped the same day to you direct from the manufacturer or distributor directly to the customer.
