Yesterday I reported on Storeys, an alternative Mac spreadsheet program from Denmark. Another alternative to Excel are the Mariner spreadsheets from Mariner Software, which also makes the very nice Mariner word processor.
Mariner's first product was the Mariner shareware spreadsheet. Written on a Mac Plus, the program used 300K of memory and a whopping160K of disk space. Mariner 1 & 2 provided many of the same features as "higher-end" spreadsheets at a fraction of the price. The successor, Mariner 3 , sold commercially in Japan and is now available in the USA.
Mariner LE 3.14 is a multi-layer spreadsheet, with 100+ functions, color charts and much more.
System 7.0 or later, Macintosh II (68020) or later CPU required.
Mariner LE 3.1.4, is a Fat Binary application (both 68K and PPC code) - 850K.
Shareware fee $30. You can download a copy from the Mariner Website: http://www.marinersoft.com/
Mariner 4.0 will be a commercial software version of the Mariner spreadsheet, and is currently in beta.
Mariner'sWilliam Paar says that they are close to finishing the Excel file import filter, and are working on a customizable button bar. Excel export capability will be added to a later release.
If you would like to be a Mariner 4.0 Beta Tester, check out the details on the Mariner http://www.marinersoft.com/
