Apple Discontinues Parts Support For Many Older Macs

Monday, January 17, 2000

On January 10th, Apple Computer announced withdrawal of support for selected Macintosh computers, PowerBooks, printers and monitors, including the thousands of parts that make up those products (see list below). Pre-Owned Electronics, Inc., a Massachusetts-based provider of remanufactured Apple products is the largest source for educators around the country who are in need of discontinued Apple parts. Selling to education for over 15 years, Pre-Owned Electronics continues to supply schools with the products they can no longer get from Apple Computer.

Pre-Owned Electronics saw a surge in business after Apple Corporation's first obsolete product announcement on September 1st 1998. Although identified by Apple as "obsolete/vintage," the discontinued products represent an install base of 1 million plus units, primarily in schools across the country. "Schools found that this announcement, seemingly unfortunate at first, was actually better for them," commented Charles H. Kouyoumjian, Vice-President of Pre-Owned Electronics. "By coming to us for these and other parts, they found that they could buy the same genuine parts as from the manufacturer not only with double the warranty period but also at a savings of up to 40%. Schools and Districts that were running out of service parts funding in March or April are now able to realize a budget surplus in June."

Pre-Owned Electronics has already added to its existing inventory of over 100,000 parts for Apple computers and peripherals up to the latest iMac and PowerMac G4 systems. The company also sells Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Packard Bell and Toshiba parts.

Founded in 1985, has earned a national reputation for providing K-12 schools, national service organizations, superstores, leading resellers, corporations and universities with outstanding value and unparalleled service. For more information visit Pre-Owned Electronics, Inc.'s Website at:
