NewerRAM Reports Growing Interest in 128Mb SIMMs for Power Mac 6100 Series

The PowerMac 6100, which some people think may be the best model Apple ever
built, is a computer that refuses to accept retirement gracefully. Nearly seven
years after they debuted, vast numbers of the tough, dependable 6100s are still in
daily use. Thanks to processor upgrades, the old 6100 can be upgraded to G3 or
even G4 power.
NewerRAM reports that inquiries into the 128Mb SIMMs for the Power Mac 6100
series have risen noticeably in recent months. Two of these 128Mb SIMMs are
required to upgrade a 6100 series system to 264Mb of RAM.
"I've talked to customers about the 6100 series upgrade," said Kay Vogt,
NewerRAM senior account manager, "and apparently, the common notion among
Power Mac users is that the 6100 was not designed to accommodate 128Mb
SIMMs. This just isn't the case. Our memory modules work wonderfully."
By upgrading the memory to 264MB from, for example, 136Mb, system
performance is greatly enhanced in these already powerful Power Mac computers.
More applications can be run simultaneously, and larger files can be manipulated
with ease by graphic-intensive programs.
"As a memory company focusing on the high-end creative markets, we often
encounter users seeking to significantly boost their systems' memory capacity,"
Vogt continued. "So, at NewerRAM, we're always exploring ways to meet
customers' memory upgrade needs. Sometimes, in fact, NewerRAM can even
provide an upgrade path that wasn't considered plausible when the customers
originally bought their systems. We love to give our customers pleasant surprises."
The PowerMac 6100 upgrade is achieved with two 128Mb SIMMs (part #
MM128M/32B-60S). The estimated retail price for one MM128M/32B-60S is
$399. NewerRAM is currently accepting orders for this module and is prepared to
ship immediately.
Like all NewerRAM memory products, the MM128M/32B-60S is built to Apple
specifications and features a lifetime warranty.
