Apple Introduces Cinema Display

22-inch LCD is Largest Ever Brought to Market

SEYBOLD, SAN FRANCISCO ---August; 31, 1999 ---Apple;® today introduced its Cinema™ Display, a spectacular 22-inch LCD flat panel that is the largest LCD display ever brought to market. The Cinema Display offers the same viewing area as a 24-inch flat CRT display, and features a "letterbox" format with 1600 x 1024 pixels and 16.7 million true colors.

Apple's Cinema Display is twice as bright, twice as sharp and has three times the contrast of CRT displays, plus it has zero flicker. Its display data is supplied digitally from Apple's new Power Mac™ G4 computers, and it offers an integrated two-port USB hub for easy connection to peripherals. The Cinema Display comes in a stunning clear enclosure that perfectly complements the new Power Mac G4 computers. Together, they make the ultimate system for publishing professionals.

"This is the display we've all dreamed about for 20 years," said Steve Jobs, Apple's interim CEO. "The Apple Cinema Display is without a doubt the largest, the most advanced and the most beautiful LCD display ever offered."

In addition to the Apple Cinema Display, Apple today unveiled translucent enclosures and a sleek new design for its award-winning Apple Studio Display monitors:

  • The 21-inch Apple Studio Display (19.8-inch viewable image size) offers incredibly sharp Trinitron CRT performance for publishing professionals who work with color-critical applications. The 21-inch display offers flicker-free viewing, ultra-fine resolution (1600 x 1200 at 85 Hz), a four-port USB hub and a unique tilt-and-swivel stand that lets users slide a keyboard underneath it for extra desktop space. It features lifetime color calibration using ColorSync® technology, Apple's industry-standard software for managing color on computer monitors, scanners and printers, and provides intuitive push-button access to software controls for all screen adjustments.
  • The 17-inch Apple Studio Display (16-inch viewable image size) combines stylish design with a high performance DiamondTron CRT. The 17-inch display offers a super-fine 0.25mm aperture grille pitch, support for multiple resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 at 60 Hz, and an anti-reflective screen coating. Multi-lingual on-screen display controls are provided and the display's tilt-and-swivel stand allows for easy keyboard storage.
